Every release is only as good as your position. The Wedge was designed specifically around the Hip Hook and Range so you spend less time setting up and more time actually releasing.

The challenge with any release tool isn’t the technique, it’s positioning. Finding the right angle for the psoas, stabilizing the Range at the cervical spine, managing pressure on a day when you want less of it: all of that requires effort. And effort is the enemy of release.
The Aletha Wedge is a precision accessory designed by a physical therapist specifically around the Hip Hook (Mark), Range, and Orbit. Its asymmetric geometry, longer sloped edge, rear notch, and textured grip surfaces aren’t generic foam block features each one solves a specific positioning problem that users of these tools encounter.
With the Hip Hook (Mark):
- Reduces bodyweight on the iliacus for a lighter touch on days when you need less pressure
- Raises and tilts the tip more vertically for better access to the psoas
- Creates clearance around the midsection for easier setup regardless of body size
With the Range:
- Supports the full weight of your head so you can actually relax into the neck release
- Holds the Range exactly in place via the rear notch — no stability effort required
- Enables access to the middle and lower neck, not just the suboccipitals
- Improves the wall angle for upper trapezius work on either side
With the Orbit:
-
Supports the opposite hip during glute and piriformis work to keep the pelvis level and the body relaxed
Additional uses:
- Seated posture support at your desk — the slope encourages a natural lumbar curve and reduces demand on your hip flexors throughout the day
- Calf and ankle mobility — place one or both feet on the sloped edge while standing, targeting the calf tightness that often develops as compensation for tight hip flexors

PT Customer Support: Real physical therapists and movement specialists answer your questions
The Wedge doesn’t make the Hip Hook or Range work, you already know they do. What it addresses is the setup friction that competes with your release: the effort of finding the right angle on the psoas, stabilizing the Range against the neck without tension, or adjusting for your body size or tightness level on a given day.
It’s especially useful if you’ve ever felt like you were almost in the right position, or if maintaining a position required effort that made it harder to fully relax into the release.
For Range users, it’s the only way to get full head support during cervical and suboccipital work — which meaningfully changes the depth of that release.
It is not a yoga block. The asymmetric shape, rear notch, and grip surfaces are specific to how the Hip Hook and Range are used. A flat block doesn’t replicate what the geometry does.
